Preparation

Installing Utility Software
According to the Utility Software instllation manual (../install_e.html), install the Image Mate and the ELMO TWAIN DS.

Connecting the Visual Presenter to a computer
Connect the Visual Presenter (hereafter the main unit) to a computer with the supplied USB cable, then turn on the power for the main unit.


Starting the [Image Mate] application

Starting the application

[Mac OS 9]

  1. Browse to "/Applications or Applications (Mac OS 9)/Image Mate (VHJ)".
  2. Double-click on the "Image Mate" alias icon.

  1. Browse to "/Applications/Image Mate (VHJ)".
  2. Double-click on the "Image Mate" icon.

***The Image Mate (VHJ) and the ELMO TWAIN DS (VHJ) cannot be used simultaneously.



Main Window

When the application starts, the following Main Window appears.

Menu Bar

The Menu Bar contains all the functions to be used in the application.

Quit Image Mate Quit the Application.
File
Capture Capture a new image from the main unit.
New Window Create a new window.
Save As... Save the image displayed in the View Area as a file.
Quit [Mac OS 9] Quit the Application.
Edit
Copy Copy the image displayed in the View Area to the clipboard.
View
Zoom In Enlarge the image displayed in the View Area.
Zoom Out Reduce the image displayed in the View Area.
Actual Size Adjust the image to its actual size(100%).
Zoom to Fit Adjust the image to fit the window.
Rotate Left Rotate the image displayed in the View Area 90 degrees to the left.
Rotate Right Rotate the image displayed in the View Area 90 degrees to the right.
Hide Toolbar
or
Show Toolbar
Hide or Show the Toolbar.
Customize Toolbar... Customize the Toolbar of the application. (Except Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X 10.1)
Tools
Show Remote Control
or
Hide Remote Control
Show or Hide the Remote Control.



Toolbar

The Toolbar contains the frequently used functions in the Menu Bar.

save as icon Save the image displayed in the View Area as a file.
capture icon Capture a new image from the main unit.
remote control icon Show or Hide the Remote Control.
new window icon Create a new window.
zoom in icon Enlarge the image displayed in the View Area.
zoom out icon Reduce the image displayed in the View Area.
rotate left icon Rotate the image displayed in the View Area 90 degrees to the left.
rotate right icon Rotate the image displayed in the View Area 90 degrees to the right.


Capturing a new image from the [Visual Presenter]

Capturing a new image

This function can capture a new image from the camera of the [Visual Presenter].

In the SXGA mode, the captured image is 1525 pixels wide by 1220 pixels high. When the image is rotated by 90 or 270 degrees, the captured image is 1220 pixels wide by 1525 pixels high.

In the XGA mode, the captured image is 1600 pixels wide by 1200 pixels high. When the image is rotated by 90 or 270 degrees, the captured image is 1200 pixels wide by 1600 pixels high.

The menu and cursor will not be captured.

  1. If there is no window, select the new window icon [New Window] button in the Toolbar or [File] > [New Window] in the Menu Bar to create a new window.
  2. Select the capture icon [Capture] button in the Toolbar or [File] > [Capture] in the Menu Bar.
  3. Capturing starts and the [Capturing image...] dialog appears. The progress bar in that dialog indicates the status of capturing the image.

    *** While a new image is being captured, other functions cannot be used.
    *** Do not turn off the power of the [Visual Presenter] or disconnect the USB cable while a new image is being captured.
    *** A still image in the pause mode of the main camera will not be captured.

  4. After capturing, the captured image will be displayed in the View Area.



Zooming in / out the image in the View Area

Zooming in (enlarging) the image

This function can zoom in (enlarge) the image in the View Area.

  1. Select the zoom in icon [Zoom In] button in the Toolbar or [View] > [Zoom In] in the Menu Bar.

Zooming out (reducing) the image

This function can zoom out (reduce) the image in the View Area.

  1. Select the zoom out icon [Zoom Out] button in the Toolbar or [View] > [Zoom Out] in the Menu Bar.

Adjusting the image to its original size

This function can adjust the captured image to its original size.

  1. Select [View] > [Actual Size] in the Menu Bar.

Adjusting the image to fit the window

This function can adjust the captured image to fit the window.

  1. Select [View] > [Zoom to Fit] in the Menu Bar.



Rotating the image in the View Area

Rotating the image 90 degrees to the left

This function can rotate the captured image 90 degrees to the left.

  1. Select the rotate left icon [Rotate Left] button in the Toolbar or [View] > [Rotate Left] in the Menu Bar.

This function can rotate the captured image 90 degrees to the right.

  1. Select the rotate left icon [Rotate Right] button in the Toolbar or [View] > [Rotate Right] in the Menu Bar.



Saving the image

Saving the image

This function can save the captured image as a file. It supports Apple PICT Document, TIFF Document, JPEG Image, Portable Network Graphics Image (PNG) and Windows Bitmap Image.

  1. Select the save as icon [Save As] button in the Toolbar or [File] > [Save As...] in the Menu Bar.
  2. The dialog "Save" appears. Determine the location you want to save the file and its name, and select the image format from the "File Format:" list in the Mac OS 9 or the "Format:" list in the Mac OS X.

Remote Control

Showing/Hiding the Remote Control

The main unit can be controlled from within the application via the remote control.

  1. Select the remote control icon [Remote Control] button in the Toolbar or [Show Remote Control] / [Hide Remote Control] in the Menu Bar.
  2. The Remote Control appears/disappears.
  3. [Mac OS 9]: Clicking the "Other..." button will open/close the small control panel.
    [Mac OS X]: Clicking the arrow (disclosure triangle) at the right of the "Other" text will open/close the small control panel.

Closing the application

Closing the application

Please save the captured image before closing the application.

  1. [Mac OS 9]: Select [File] > [Quit] in the Menu Bar.
    [Mac OS X]: Select [Image Mate] > [Quit Image Mate] in the Menu Bar.



Transferring images to an application program (TWAIN interface)

Starting the ELMO TWAIN DS

The ELMO TWAIN DS is not a stand-alone application. It is started from within the Adobe® Photoshop® 7.0.
  1. Select [File] > [Import] > [ELMO TWAIN DS (VHJ)...] from the menu of the Photoshop> 7.0.
  2. The ELMO TWAIN DS (VHJ) user interface appears.

    [Cancel] or [Quit] Button
    Closes the ELMO TWAIN DS user interface dialog.
    [Preview] Button
    Loads a decimated image from the main unit and displays it on the User Interface for a preview showing the area to be captured.
    [Transfer] Button
    Loads an image from the main unit and transfers it to the application.
    *** A digital magnification cannot be applied to an image transferred.
    [About] Button
    Displays the version and the copyright of the ELMO TWAIN DS.
    *** Because the Image Mate (VHJ) and the ELMO TWAIN DS (VHJ) cannot be used simultaneously, if the Image Mate (VHJ) is already started, please close it.



Troubleshooting

[Mac OS 9]

For Image Mate

The message "USB Initialize failed" is displayed.

Cause : The main unit is not ready or there is no connection between the main unit and the computer.
Solution : Check the power for the main unit and the connection between the main unit and the computer.


The message "USB disconnected" is displayed.

Cause : After the application was launched, the main unit was turned off or the connection between the main unit and the computer was closed.
Solution : Check the power for the main unit and the connection between the main unit and the computer, then restart the application.


The message "Error capturing image" is displayed.

Cause : The main unit is not ready or there is no connection between the main unit and the computer.
Solution : Check the power for the main unit and the connection between the main unit and the computer, then restart the application.


For ELMO TWAIN DS

The message "USB Initialize failed" is displayed.

The message "USB connection to camera was disconnected. Restart DS." is displayed.

Cause : After the ELMO TWAIN DS was launched, the power for the main unit was turned off or the connection between the main unit and the computer was closed.
Solution : Check the power for the main unit and the connection between the main unit and the computer, then restart the ELMO TWAIN DS.


[Mac OS X]

For Image Mate

The message "USB Initialize failed" is displayed.

Cause 2 : If the "Classic" environment is running, it may affect the Image Mate.
Solution 2 : Stop the "Classic" environment.


The message "Error capturing image" is displayed.

Solution : Check the power for the main unit and the connection between the main unit and the computer, then restart the application.


For ELMO TWAIN DS

The message "Unable to make USB connection to camera" is displayed.

The message "Unable to establish USB connection" is displayed.

Cause 1 : The main unit is not ready or there is no connection between the main unit and the computer.
Solution 1 : Check the power for the main unit and the connection between the main unit and the computer.

Cause 2 : If the "Classic" environment is running, it may affect the Image Mate.
Solution 2 : Stop the "Classic" environment.

The message "Image Capture has failed" is displayed.

Cause : While capturing the image, the main unit is turnd off or the connection between the main unit and the computer is closed (disconnected).
Solution : Check the power for the main unit and the connection between the unit and the computer. Then click the "Preview" button or the "Transfer" button.
